We leave our Vienna hostel very happily for the train to Munich. This train ride was the most comfortable yet - fully air-conditioned and very comfy seats. We arrive in Munich between 3 and 4. Our hostel is only a block from the train station, so it was very easy to find. We're actually at the end of a long row of hostels. All of them are very loud and boisterous, but ours is slightly quieter - I think because the bar is in the back. The world cup of Korea vs. Somewhere was just finishing up and there were only a couple Korean backpackers watching it in the lounge. We ditch our bags in the room - enormous compared to our last place, and blessedly cool. Though, there's no air conditioning, the weather has just gotten a lot colder. If we were there with the same heat wave we had experienced in Vienna, we would probably still be mildly disgruntled. Though, there is a TV that has the game on, so major plus right there.
We get out of the hostel and head down to Marienplatz to watch the USA vs. UK game at the only Irish pub in town worth a darn - Kilians. It is PACKED. Very hot and very crowded. We spy one open table, but it's reserved. The Australian bar next door is even worse. Disheartened, we race back to the hostel, grabbing take out on the way (cause obviously we're starved by now) and manage to snag the last table in the common room before it starts to fill up. As the game progresses, the room fills up more and more, but we have a table, so we're set. Skip really gets into the game - I watch with mild fascination. There's only a couple of Americans that really get into it, but a lot of British fans.
